West European and American Painting from the Museums of the USA

The Minsk showing of West European and American Painting from the Museums of the USA presented paintings from five American museums: the National Gallery of Art in Washington, the Los Angeles County Museum of Art, the Detroit Institute of Arts, the Museum of Fine Arts, Houston, and the Buffalo Bill Historical Center, from the Italian Renaissance and Dutch and French old masters through the Impressionists and American realism. Organised for the Soviet Union by the American collector Armand Hammer, it was the final leg of the 1976 tour, after Leningrad, Moscow and Kyiv.

Its Vermeer was A Lady Writing(National Gallery of Art, Washington), the work closing the exhibition’s Soviet tour.
