West European and American Painting from the Museums of the USA
Западноевропейская и американская живопись из музеев США
The Kyiv showing of West European and American Painting from the Museums of the USA brought together paintings from five American museums: the National Gallery of Art in Washington, the Los Angeles County Museum of Art, the Detroit Institute of Arts, the Museum of Fine Arts, Houston, and the Buffalo Bill Historical Center, surveying European art from the Renaissance to the Post-Impressionists alongside American realism. Organised for the Soviet Union by the American collector Armand Hammer, it followed the exhibition’s earlier legs at the Hermitage in Leningrad and the Pushkin Museum in Moscow.
Its Vermeer was A Lady Writing (National Gallery of Art, Washington), before the tour closed in Minsk later in 1976.
