Tokyo Metropolitan Art Museum
Tokyo, Japan
The Tokyo Metropolitan Art Museum is an art museum in Ueno Park, Tokyo, Japan. First opened in 1926 as one of the city's earliest public art museums, it was later rebuilt to a design by the architect Kunio Maekawa, whose building opened in the 1970s, and it underwent a further renovation completed in 2012.
Rather than maintaining a large permanent collection, the museum is known primarily as a venue for temporary exhibitions, including major international loan shows as well as exhibitions organized by art societies and member groups.
