Saint Louis Art Museum
Saint Louis, United States
The Saint Louis Art Museum is the principal art museum of St. Louis, Missouri, United States, located in Forest Park. Its main building was designed by the architect Cass Gilbert as the Palace of Fine Arts for the 1904 Louisiana Purchase Exposition (the St. Louis World's Fair) and was retained as a permanent museum after the fair closed.
The collection ranges across cultures and periods, with notable strengths in German Expressionism, Oceanic and pre-Columbian art, and European and American painting. In 2013 the museum opened a major expansion designed by the British architect David Chipperfield, and admission to the permanent collection is free.
