Pulchri Studio
The Hague, Netherlands
Pulchri Studio is an artists' society and exhibition space in The Hague, Netherlands, founded in 1847. Its name derives from the Latin motto "Pulchri Studio" (the pursuit of beauty), and it remains one of the oldest cultural institutions in the city, run by and for artists.
The society played a central role in the Hague School of the later nineteenth century, counting painters such as Jozef Israëls, Hendrik Willem Mesdag, and Anton Mauve among its members. It continues to mount exhibitions of contemporary art from its premises on the Lange Voorhout.
