North Carolina Museum of Art
Raleigh, United States
The North Carolina Museum of Art is the art museum of the U.S. state of North Carolina, located in Raleigh. Its origins trace to a 1947 appropriation by the state legislature to purchase art for the people of North Carolina, an early instance of a U.S. state directly funding the creation of an art collection. The museum opened to the public in 1956.
Its collection ranges across ancient Egyptian, Greek and Roman art, European painting and American art, and it is set on a large campus that includes an extensive outdoor museum park combining art, trails and landscape.
