National Gallery of Australia
Canberra, Australia
The National Gallery of Australia is the country's national art museum, located in the parliamentary precinct of Canberra. Established in the 1960s and 1970s, it opened its purpose-built gallery to the public in 1982, in a Brutalist building set among sculpture gardens beside Lake Burley Griffin.
Its collection spans Australian art, including one of the world's most significant holdings of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander art, as well as international modern and contemporary works. Among its best-known acquisitions is Jackson Pollock's painting Blue Poles.
