The National Art Center, Tokyo

Tokyo, Japan

The National Art Center, Tokyo opened in 2007 in the Roppongi district of Minato, Tokyo. Designed by the architect Kisho Kurokawa, the building is distinguished by its undulating glass facade and is one of the largest exhibition spaces in Japan.

Unlike a conventional museum, it holds no permanent collection. Instead it operates as a "kunsthalle," hosting a changing programme of temporary exhibitions, including large touring shows and the annual exhibitions of Japanese artists' associations.
