The Museum of Fine Arts, Boston is one of the largest art museums in the United States. It was founded in 1870 and opened to the public in 1876, originally on Copley Square; in 1909 it moved to its present home on Huntington Avenue in the Fenway area of Boston, Massachusetts.
Its collection is encyclopedic, with major holdings of ancient Egyptian, Greek and Roman art, Asian art, European and American paintings, and decorative arts. The museum is especially noted for its collection of Japanese art and its strong holdings of Impressionist and American works.
