Museum Dahlem (Staatliche Museen zu Berlin)
Berlin, Germany
Museum Dahlem refers to the cluster of museums in the Dahlem district of Berlin, Germany, operated as part of the Staatliche Museen zu Berlin (the Berlin State Museums), a group of institutions administered by the Prussian Cultural Heritage Foundation. In the post-war decades, while the city was divided, the Dahlem complex housed major collections of European painting before many works returned to the central museums.
In its later years the site was devoted chiefly to the ethnological and Asian art collections, which subsequently moved to the Humboldt Forum in central Berlin. The Berlin State Museums as a whole encompass the city's leading collections, including the Gemäldegalerie of old master paintings.
