São Paulo, Brazil
The Museu de Arte de São Paulo Assis Chateaubriand (MASP) is a fine-arts museum in São Paulo, Brazil, founded in 1947 by the journalist Assis Chateaubriand and the art dealer Pietro Maria Bardi. It holds one of the most important collections of European art in the Southern Hemisphere, alongside Brazilian, African and Asian works.
Since 1968 it has occupied a landmark building on Avenida Paulista designed by the architect Lina Bo Bardi, whose main volume is raised on red supports to leave an open public plaza beneath. The museum is also known for displaying paintings on transparent glass easels.
