Museo Nacional Thyssen-Bornemisza
Madrid, Spain
The Museo Nacional Thyssen-Bornemisza is an art museum in Madrid, Spain, housed in the Palacio de Villahermosa near the Prado. It is based on the collection assembled over the twentieth century by the Thyssen-Bornemisza family of industrialists, which the Spanish state acquired in 1993; the museum had opened the previous year.
Together with the Prado and the Reina Sofía, it forms part of Madrid's "Golden Triangle of Art." Its holdings trace the history of Western painting from the medieval and early Renaissance periods through Impressionism, Expressionism and the avant-garde movements of the twentieth century.
