Mucem

Marseille, France

The Mucem, or Museum of European and Mediterranean Civilisations, is a national museum in Marseille, France, devoted to the history and cultures of the Mediterranean world. It opened in 2013, the year Marseille was European Capital of Culture, and is the first major national museum located outside Paris.

Its striking seafront building, designed by Rudy Ricciotti and wrapped in a lattice-like concrete shell, stands beside the historic Fort Saint-Jean at the entrance to the old port, the two linked by a slender footbridge.
