M. Knoedler & Co.
New York, United States
M. Knoedler & Co. was one of the most prominent art dealerships in the United States, established in New York in the mid-nineteenth century and tracing its origins to a branch of the French print firm Goupil & Cie. For more than a century it sold old master and modern paintings to leading American collectors and museums.
The gallery closed in 2011 after about 165 years in business, amid a scandal involving the sale of forged works falsely attributed to modern masters, which led to a series of lawsuits.
