Guildhall Art Gallery

London, United Kingdom

The Guildhall Art Gallery houses the art collection of the City of London, in a building beside Guildhall in the historic centre of the City. The original gallery opened in 1885; it was destroyed by bombing during the Second World War, and the present building opened in 1999.

Its collection emphasises Victorian art, including Pre-Raphaelite works, along with paintings documenting London's history and views of the city. During construction of the current building, the remains of London's Roman amphitheatre were discovered beneath the site and are now preserved and displayed within the gallery.
