Galleria Estense

Modena, Italy

The Galleria Estense is an art gallery in Modena, occupying the top floor of the Palazzo dei Musei, an eighteenth-century palace. It was publicly established in 1854 by Francis V, the last Duke of Modena, and moved to its present location in 1894.

The collection is centred on the art assembled by the d'Este dynasty, who ruled Modena, Reggio and Ferrara, and ranges across Italian, Flemish, German and French painting, sculpture, musical instruments and decorative arts.
