Dulwich Picture Gallery
London, United Kingdom
Dulwich Picture Gallery is an art gallery in south London that opened in 1817, generally regarded as the oldest public art gallery in England. It was designed by the Regency architect Sir John Soane, whose innovative use of overhead skylights to light the paintings became influential in gallery design.
The collection consists chiefly of Old Master paintings, with notable holdings of French, Italian and Spanish Baroque art and British portraiture from the Tudor era to the nineteenth century.
