Copley Society of Art

Boston, United States

The Copley Society of Art, founded in Boston in 1879, is the oldest non-profit art association in the United States. Originally formed by graduates of the School of the Museum of Fine Arts, it took its name from the colonial American painter John Singleton Copley.

The society promotes the work of its member artists through exhibitions and has long been associated with Boston's Back Bay and Copley Square. Over its history it has organized influential shows, including early exhibitions of works by artists such as Claude Monet and James McNeill Whistler.
