Centraal Museum

Utrecht, Netherlands

The Centraal Museum is the municipal museum of Utrecht, in the Netherlands, and is generally regarded as the oldest municipal museum in the country, with origins reaching back to the late nineteenth century. Its collections span the art and history of the city and region, including paintings by the Utrecht Caravaggisti, applied arts, costume, and city history.

The museum is especially known for its holdings related to the painter Jan van Scorel and to the De Stijl designer Gerrit Rietveld; the nearby Rietveld Schröder House is managed as part of the institution. Its galleries occupy a former monastery complex in the centre of Utrecht.
