Castel Sismondo

Rimini, Italy

Castel Sismondo is a fortress in Rimini, Italy, begun in 1437 for Sigismondo Pandolfo Malatesta, the city's ruler, who is said to have taken part in its design. Built as both a residence and a stronghold for the Malatesta family, it originally stood within a wider ring of defensive works that has since largely disappeared.

Much of the outer fortifications were demolished over the following centuries, leaving the central keep that survives today. The castle now serves as a cultural and exhibition venue, hosting temporary displays and events in the heart of Rimini.
