Ashmolean Museum
Oxford, United Kingdom
The Ashmolean Museum is the museum of art and archaeology of the University of Oxford, United Kingdom. It opened in 1683, making it one of the oldest public museums in the world, and its present building on Beaumont Street was built between 1841 and 1845 to a classical design by Charles Cockerell.
Its collections range across Egyptian, Greek and Minoan antiquities, majolica, English silver and European painting, including Pre-Raphaelite works; a 2009 redevelopment roughly doubled the display space.
