The Art Institute of Chicago is a private art museum in Chicago, United States, founded in 1879. Its main building, designed by Shepley, Rutan and Coolidge, was completed in 1893 for the World's Columbian Exposition, and the Modern Wing, designed by Renzo Piano, opened in 2009.
The museum holds more than 300,000 works across eleven curatorial departments and is especially noted for its collection of Impressionist and Post-Impressionist painting.
