The Art Gallery of New South Wales is a public art gallery in Sydney, Australia. It was established in 1872 as the New South Wales Academy of Art and held its first public exhibition in 1874; its main building, designed by Walter Liberty Vernon, opened in stages from 1896, and the Sydney Modern extension was added in 2022.

The collection numbers around 40,000 works, encompassing Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander art, Australian and Asian art, Pacific art, photography and Western European painting from the 15th century onward.
