The Alte Pinakothek is an art museum in the Kunstareal district of Munich, Germany. It was commissioned by King Ludwig I of Bavaria and built between 1826 and 1836 to designs by Leo von Klenze in a Neo-Renaissance style; at its opening it was among the largest museums in the world.
Its collection of Old Master paintings spans the 14th to the 18th centuries, with more than 800 works on display and particularly strong holdings of Early German, Early Netherlandish and Flemish painting alongside Italian, Dutch, French and Spanish schools.
